The Sisterhood of the Virgin Lips
I’m 24 and never been kissed. Recently some girl friends and I were talking. It was discovered that we were ALL 24 and had NEVER been kissed. It’s quite an accomplishment, really.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I want to be kissed. I’m sure it can be wonderful.. But I’ve never had the opportunity. There’s never been “enough” mutual attraction for a kiss to take place. Sure, I’ve wanted to kiss a guy or two. But I’m not one to just go plant a smackeroo.
Because I’ve never been kissed and I’m almost 25 I’ve decided to wait. My first kiss won’t be planted until I’m engaged. I’m at a point in life where dating is no longer “just for fun” or for numbers (in fact, it was never like that for me).
Now, for me, dating is for keeps. I’m dating to get married. {I’m terrified by this idea, that the next person I go out with may very well become my boyfriend and, after some time, my fiancĂ© then husband.} But at the same time it’s exciting!
Somewhere God has a man for me. Someone that I can be paired with for time and all eternity. A man that I can share my joys with, divide my sorrows with, hopefully invite children into this world with, someone to be my companion and best friend.
He’s not likely to pop up out of thin air. (If he did, I’d likely end up punching or kicking him….) I’ve got to be actively searching for him. I have to get to know the men that I come across. Whether it be through church, school, work, the grocery store, the temple (how cool would that be?!), etc.
It’s not easy, especially considering that I’m not very social.. But I know it’ll be worth it.
I’m only going to marry one man. BUT that does not mean that the dates that I go on with other men are pointless. They certainly are NOT! With every date, every conversation, every interaction, I am closer to finding my future husband. I am becoming a better date, a better woman, and a better person. I am better able to recognize what I do and do not want in a relationship and in a spouse.
So, to all the men who were not the one, but helped me in my journey. THANK YOU. It means the world to me.
Love,
D. J. Lathrop
